Final images – Football watching Photograph.
With this first photograph I really wanted to capture some rawer emotions. I used my flat mates that I had been researching on as my model so I knew they were capable of expressing the deep, raw and passionate emotions as I had captured when they were really watching football. I am got them to watch football before the shoot to get them in the mood and bought them a lot of beer to try and really get them in the mood. I think you can see in this image that it worked, this photograph is my personal favourite from the football watching shoot, it shows the illation of the supporters as they leap from the sofa as there team scores. It also shows the unity of there reaction as they all jump up at the same time and express the same emotion. This unity is further show in the way I have dressed the guys all in exactly the same representation of a football shirt. I used red because it shows dominance and power which is reflected in the guy guys reaction and I also wanted to make the shirts resemble England’s, world cup winning, 1966 shirts as this is the holy grail of football memories for any English fan . I am also really proud of this image as I finally managed to nailed the illusion of the projected colour from the light given off by the TV that I failed to capture in my earlier film photographs that I took the day before.
This second image leads back to this style of arty constructed imagery I seem to have been developing through this module. It is again one of these purposefully shaped and symmetrical(ish) images that I stage and try and make as bold and theatrical as possible. It presents the stark emotional differences that supporters can fell depending on whether their team is winning or losing. The lads in the foreground are obviously supporting the winning team and showing a range of emotions such as illation, determination, dominance, happiness. Where as the lads in the back ground are obviously supporting the team who are losing and they look depressed and beaten. The positioning of the models in this photograph is very important. The reds standing tall in looking dominant and then the blues sat head in hand and look in despair portrays this idea of weakness and that they are broken as a unit. I chose to put the win team in red as its is seen as a more dominant colour and blues is seen as cold and weak.
Conclusion – again very pleased with the images and the fact that my experimentation with the lighting paid off and adds a whole new dimension to my images that I don’t think I have managed to achieve before. I would have like to have got a few more good images of other emotions but drunken lads can be quite hard to work with at times and they seem to lose imagination when you point a camera at them. Don’t get me wrong they did brilliantly but trying to get emotions out of some of they was like trying to get blood from a stone. If I am going to take my photograph further I might want to start look for models or actors who are more used to having a camera in their faces.
